the Slagle Farm:

The Slagle Farm has been in the family for many years. At the turn of the century it was typical of many small Appalachian farms growing most everything needed with some left over to market. Converted to a dairy in the 1940's, it was one of approximately 55 dairies in Macon County during the 1950's and early 60's. In the late 1960's the farm was converted to beef cattle production. Today most of the farm is leased to a local beef cattle farmer with some acreage around the center of the farm devoted to sheep, lamb and wool production as well as cut flowers, herbs, and vegetables. Most Saturdays one can find us at our local farmer's market selling some of what we produce and enjoying other local farmers and our neighbors. It is our hope that the farm will become an even more vital part of our community in the years to come.
